Naomi Larh, Hatter from the Otherworld, surfacing to promote slow-fashion; eco-friendly and ethical headwear for play and practice.

- Aim to source all fabrics locally, ethically and sustainably, making good use of second-hand and vintage materials.

-- refuse to buy any blended or plastic fabrics new, so that products can eventually be easily recycled or even composted if needed

- All waste and offcuts are repurposed or recycled, and packaging will be made from forest-friendly recycled materials.

-Adhere to standards that prioritize social and environmental concerns, including making sure the companies I use have safe and healthy conditions for workers in the supply chain, that there is no exploitation, workers are paid fairly and gender equality policies are in place.

-When sourcing heritage fabrics, I only use companies that are Responsible Wool Standard, with the best treatment for animals. My pieces are plastic-free and the dying process adheres to Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals.

Vision

I offer high-quality hats that are multifunctional, practical and performative. They can withstand weather and everyday wear. They can be worn as a statement, or simply to slouch around the grotto. The benefit of hats made from woven fabric is their durability; they can be folded and squashed whilst still maintaining structure.

I prioritize using responsible, organic and local materials that are highly durable and long-lasting, making good use of second-hand and vintage fabrics.

I’m passionate about the blend of contemporary design with traditional techniques and processes; using reduced energy and waste. I chose style over trend, slow fashion over throw-away, planet over profit.

Hats are designed and handmade in King’s Cross, London, an urban hub with a rich history of culture and craft. My interest in history and folklore extends into designs for my collection, drawing inspiration from vintage fashion, mythology and surrealism.

Our bodies are a part of the environment we inhabit and are in constant exchange with it. In our hyperconnected world our ideas of the self are constantly in flux, the physical and cyber realms interacting without boundaries.

As an extension of this, my hats are posthuman entities, anthropomorphic and surreal, with faces, horns and ears; fantastical creatures that can be instantly embodied.
